Today I’m buzzing, hence the post.
I today received an opportunity to bid for my biggest job yet, a lead that came from me website that said, and I quote ‘We’ve seen and heard great things about you, and I loved the website, call me’…
So I did, and right now I’m soooo pleased I took that step back in December to start my side hustle…
As a busy IT Sales & Marketing Director with two kids, a wife, a dog (that acts like a cat), Samaritans shifts, fitness goals, pub banter to uphold, and a love of the great outdoors running, cycling, swimming and camping – spare time was (is) still rare.
But I needed more fulfilment, freedom and fun, and so I put my plan into action.
Is it time you stepped up?
Why Weekends Are Your Secret Weapon!
Most people aren’t maximising Saturday mornings, but if time is tight, weekends are your unfair advantage.
By treating mine like workdays, I made progress fast. I also invested time in the winter/rainy times learning SEO, building a website and doing some very basic marketing, such was my confidence that I’d have customers…. eventually…
I had faith – my website had just 9 visitors in the first three months!!
Stay confident in the early days!
Why You Should Start a Side Hustle
Search Google for UK side hustle ideas and you’ll find endless lists, but few are as grounding, healthy, or genuinely appreciated as gardening services.
Since starting, I’ve been gifted financial tips, cakes, steak dinners, stacks of advice, books and old-skool tools that you can’t even buy anymore.
The appreciation is real.
Could your hobby become a part-time business?
Maybe you’re able to turn a hobby into a business where you’re truly appreciated and rewarded?
Maybe you could start my making a list of the things you’re passionate about?
The Birth of The Tidy Garden – Winnersh
The idea came on a classic British weekend, in winter, wearing muddy boots in the gloom whilst walking the dog. (I recorded the moment I pepp’d myself into action!)
but instead of switching off, I switched on and started something that felt worthwhile, and over time it’s grown into something quite special.
Fast forward half a season, and I now run The Tidy Garden — a growing garden maintenance business in Berkshire, focused on Winnersh and the surrounding areas.
It’s nothing fancy — just lawn mowing, weeding, hedge trimming and reliable help for busy households and older residents, primarily it’s gardening services in Winnersh – simple stuff, but it matters to me, and especially my clients.
Can you offer value and service locally that nourishes your soul and pocket?
Thinking of Starting a Side Hustle?
Whether it’s gardening, tutoring, baking, a PT or freelance consulting — your idea matters, and if you’ve only got weekends – trust me that’s enough to get started!
Plant the seed.
Show up regularly.
Let it grow.
Yes, I’m knackered.
But I’m proud, grateful — and now able to strim a straight line backwards 😊
What are you doing at the weekend? Relaxing…. or getting after it!
